Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think – Albert Einstein

We all learn continuously throughout our life. There can be various modes of learning.

Blended learning and self-learning are one of those.

What is Blended Learning

Blended learning is an educational curriculum (formal or informal) that combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods, requiring the physical presence of teachers and students, while taking into account students’ time, place, path or speed control.

While students are still attending “physical” schools in the presence of teachers, face-to-face classroom exercises are combined with computer-introduced content and delivery activities. Blended learning is also used in the professional development and training environment.

Blended learning is a buzz word that has recently been thrown out by a bunch, bringing together the best classroom learning and e-learning. In fact, it seems to be an ideal solution because it attracts all learning styles, situations, needs and needs. It combines classroom learning with the flexibility of e-learning.

Benefits of Blended Learning:

  • Time-Saving
  • Cost Reduction
  • Flexibility
  • Increased RoI
  • Effective Learning
  • Creativity
  • Motivating

I will briefly explain a few of these points:

Delivers training quickly and efficiently:

Suppose your company has launched a new product on the market. With each product launch, sales staff must be in the market after the release of product information immediately accessible to product information to provide better sales performance.

However, because they are in the field, it is difficult to attend any class on time, how do you provide them with the necessary information?

Learning materials and training (sample product information above) are provided through a mix of learning, online platforms, and trainers; online course material means that your learner can access learning content using only electronic devices connected to the Internet. You can also update these materials at any time.

Through the combination of online teaching and face-to-face learning, employees working in remote areas can meet face-to-face with their trainers through web conferencing (digital classroom)

Leverages both ILT and E-learning:

By combining the best of both worlds, blended learning brings the benefits of Leadership Training (ILT) and eLearning. ILT can be used to train those aspects that are only effective through personal interaction and other (partial) e-learning that can be taught by the learner.

Take sales training as an example. In order to provide better sales performance, sales representatives need to have sales and negotiation skills, as well as the knowledge of existing products.

In this case, the ILT may be implemented to deliver soft skill training, as it allows the trainer to interact with the sales representative in person. The way e-learning can be used to impart product knowledge

Makes learning flexible:

Continuously pulling employees from work to provide training may have serious performance problems. Blended learning, on the other hand, scores a high degree of flexibility.

When participation in ILT meetings is not feasible, e-learning can help employees work tightly and easily upgrade their skills and knowledge by accessing online courses, as well as access to new ideas and information through home and office electronic media, or any other Convenient location.

Trainers know that learning is never one size fits all. However, the right technology can help meet the needs of each trainee while still adapting resources and working time limits. And because e-learning offers 24X7 material access, they can be learned anytime, anywhere

Having seen the importance of Blended learning, let’s have a look at self-learning.

What is Self-Learning

It is self-explanatory that self-learning is learning on your own. When you are not just spoon fed but given opportunities to explore and learn on your own. We do learn by making mistakes. That is also self-learning.

Why is it so important?

Some of the very important aspects of self-learning are:

  1. Self-learning is more fun than being taught at.
  2. Self-learning trains one to go to the source for information which reduces the possibility of erroneous material.
  3. Self-learning eliminates all excuses for not reaching one’s potential. It will never be anyone else’s fault if the student doesn’t learn.
  4. Self-learning allows the family to function as a family without emulating an institution at home.
  5. Self-learning enables the learner to limit the number of interests undertaken so as not to be spread too thinly.
  6. Self-learning allows the learner to go as deeply into a subject and interact with the subject matter as deeply as he would like to go
  7. Self-learning gives the opportunity to develop a good work ethic.
  8. A student becomes an independent thinker
  9. Students become more than prepared for college study, which will require motivation and planning ahead.
  10. A student has the courage to delve into an area of interest to study it without having to wait for a teacher to teach it.
  11. Students learn where to go when help is needed. There is no need to worry about gaps in their education because if they need to know something down the road, they will just look it up on their own.
  12. Students retain more naturally when they do the work versus someone spoon feeding the information into them.
  13. Student tests well because he is used to tackling problems on his own, which equals confidence.
  14. Intrinsic rewards become the focus, that good feeling inside that comes from a job well done.
  15. Students become more than prepared for college study, which will require motivation and planning ahead.
  16. Student earns accountability.
  17. A student gains the freedom to learn without restrictions.

Thus it can be observed that both the forms of learning are important. Rather I would say learning in any form is very important and effective.

So keep reading and keep learning!
