Why Sports Education Is Essential?

Every coin has two sides. Similarly, academic learning and sports education complement each other. They are like two sides of a coin. If one continues sports education along with the academics, there is a complete change in the personality of the student. It is comparatively one level above the one who only focuses on academics. While the student who goes along one on one with both, the student develops various qualities of leadership himself.

There are a few qualities which he inculcates which are actually very useful in their life. It also helps the student to learn work-life balance. For instance, working hard on education. At the same time, it helps the student in managing his time which will help him in his future. The student inculcates qualities like leadership, sharing, team spirit and tolerance from sports and sports education. These qualities are the qualities which today’s corporate world is looking for. So it will also help when he will work in corporate. Sports education also teaches student qualities and habits of obedience, discipline, the determination to win, willpower, etc. On the other part, academics teach students reasoning ability, development of mind, vocational qualities, etc.

Everyone is connected to sports in one way or another. Sports play an important part in every society, every country and, every part of our planet. For a few, it might be a family activity and for few, it might be a community building exercise. A friendly cricket match on a Sunday morning or a football match in a neighborhood can prove to be quite entertaining.

The values that are being taught by sports are very immense; when you lose a game it teaches you how to tackle failure. It also teaches one how to handle failure and then accept failure as a harsh truth. Then again rising up to fight against the same, to stand up after a fall and to fight back. This is one of the essential lessons for leading a successful life which one can learn while continuing sport and its education parallelly. One another lesson which one can learn is of teamwork. This teaches a student of putting the team before self because playing for a team is beyond a personal accomplishment.

Also, sports education teaches us to develop a healthy and also a positive competition. This, in turn, helps a student to learn about harsh and fair competition. This sense of fair play and teamwork is a much-needed attribute in many corporate boardrooms. One more factor which is most important is that it teaches the student a sense of discipline of practice; which also teaches the habit of single-minded determination. Sports teaches the student the determinacy to score runs in the game of cricket. This habit is instilled through a game. This is the single most important habit that is necessary to accomplish excellence in any career, be it in the business or professional world.

Generally, in India, the perception of sports education is something different. Engineers, Doctors, CA’s, etc. are given more importance as compared to sports education. Sports in India are not considered as a profession. As a result investment by schools as well as parents for excellence in sports is limited. However, today’s education system has changed. As a result, the education board has made sports education a compulsory subject. However, it has not been in practice yet to get the seriousness and importance. In India, however, most schools lack sports facilities and there is less inclination in providing sports facilities for them. Physical education not only contributes to creating a healthy individual but also a healthy society.

The hurdle in the progress of sports education in most schools in India includes:

Lack Of Proper Facilities: In India, many schools are still not equipped with facilities like grounds for various outdoor sports, lack of indoor sports equipment’s, less of best quality trainers which can teach students best techniques, help them in developing critical strategies, etc. This leads to less interest in sports and its education. In India, almost 60 to 70 percent of the population is youth. Despite being a country with the largest population below the age of 25, India has not made any significant presence in the world of sports. The national game of India is Hockey. Hockey, being the national game, India has not done well in it at the global level. In other sports except cricket, our condition is not worse but rather pathetic.

Proper functioning of the sports bodies– There are various Government officials who head the various sports committees and associations. These need to function effectively to overcome the challenges faced in imparting sports education in the country. Also, there is an inappropriate allocation and use of budget. The budgetary allocation for sports, in India, is not as much as compared to the countries that excel in the Olympics and other international sports events.

These are a few aspects which tell us that we lag sports education and its facilities in India. As a result, there is fewer sports education among our students as compared to foreign countries. As the saying in English goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. This line also says that only work and education makes students dull. Nowadays various type of management like brand management, product management is coming as individual parts of management.

Also one of the parts of management that are increasing is Sports Entrepreneurship and Sports Management. So sports education can actually be very important for a student who aspires to pursue a career in one of the above-mentioned fields. Various companies like IMG, Octagon, RCS Sports, Nike, Fila, etc. help educational institutions in conducting various sports, inter-college & intra-college and also helps in managing various sports-related activities. Also, the introduction of various leagues like Indian Premier League in Cricket, Indian Super League in Football, Pro Kabaddi in Kabaddi, are inspiring students. Also, there are a number of students who aspire to build their career in this field. Hence, sports education plays an important role. However, there are many companies who during their selection process give more edge to students who have good knowledge in the field of sports. Some of the companies include Adidas, Nike, etc.

There are approximately 315 sports academies and institutions which are teaching about sports and its education. We all know that Sports releases feel-good endorphin which elevates the mood. A good mood is conducive to performing well in other fields. Since there is peace of mind that allows greater concentration. Sports acts as a great outlet for frustrations of any kind. Thus these are the kind of solution that sports education provided if one studies it in detail. Hence all of these show that it’s very important to have sports education in accordance with academic education. Thus one must take up sports education at schools, colleges, and educational institutions for the all-round development of the person. This will help them immensely in their lives ahead. Therefore sports education along with the academics result in the mental, moral and physical development of the students.
